Aquapharm® Biodiscovery Ltd is a leading marine biotechnology company pioneering the discovery and development of new products derived from marine micro-organisms. It is based at the European Centre for Marine Biotechnology in Oban, Scotland and has commercial interests ranging from functional ingredients for the personal care and nutritional markets to anti-infective drug discovery.
Through the application of its proprietary technologies, the company has been able to culture previously unculturable microbes and has built a substantial and specialised collection of marine bacteria and fungi.
In addition, by applying patented fermentation technology to its microbial library, Aquapharm has the means to develop and supply new classes of natural-source industrial products that can be produced organically without the need to use petrochemicals.
Aquapharm is currently seeking commercial partners to engage in screening and product development partnerships. These collaborations will drive forward the commercialisation of functional ingredients from its marine collection for application in the personal care, nutritional and pharmaceutical (including animal health) fields.
