Biosonda S.A. is a vaccine development company founded in 1982, by María Inés Becker and Alfredo E De Ioannes, scientific entrepreneurs. The primary product of the Company’s exports is a hemocyanin (CCH), obtained from the Chilean mollusk Concolepas concholepas. Hemocyanins from gastropod mollusks are highly potent T-cell dependent immunostimulatory proteins and adjuvants. The hemocyanin from Megatura crenulata (KLH) has an extensive history in vaccine development and immunological research. However, KLH was challenged years ago by the emergence of a novel hemocyanin CCH, which in addition to the remarkable immunogenic properties of KLH, is more stable and efficient as a carrier protein for the production of antibodies to haptens and peptides. Since it’s launch within the marketplace, more than 10 kilograms of CCH have been sold by Biosonda, under the trade mark of BlueCarrierR. Moreover, it has excellent properties as an immunostimulant and adjuvant for developing vaccines to treat infectious diseases. Recently, a specific immunostimulant formulation ImmunocyaninR, was developed and incorporated to commercial fishvaccines with excellent results. The research laboratories are located in Santiago, Chile and involve a 300 m2 facility with all the necessary equipment and human resources for production. Biosonda’s R&D activities have generated several scientific publications in prestigious journals.
