Performance Genomics Inc. (PGI) is a genetic research and product development company in the field of mammalian reproductive longevity (RL) developing solutions that have application in the agriculture, human services and pharmaceutical sectors across the globe. For details see www.performancegenomics.com.
The company recently identified genes and pathways related to reproductive longevity in mice. This information is the foundation for the development of predictive DNA marker tests for selective breeding in various livestock species and tests to predict the duration of the reproductive window in women. This information also provides a springboard for further research in mice to study the role of certain pathways and genes, to elucidate the genetic basis of variation in reproductive longevity and to identify products that improve RL.
PGI offices are located at Agritech Park in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada and the company utilizes laboratory facilities of the NSAC in Truro. Much of the in-house research associated with this project is carried out at the Atlantic Research Centre for Agricultural Genomics (ARCAG), the College’s core molecular research facility. PGI’s research and commercialization program involves collaborations with Stonebridge Breeding Ltd, a UK-based company working at the interface of livestock breeding and genomics, and The Semex Alliance, a world leader in commercial livestock improvement.
